Overview

This guide is intended to help taking the very first steps with General Storage MAGS. Learn how to install this product, setup backup tasks, monitor running and finished backup jobs and Restore data.

MAGS is an application that controls the STORAGE PROTECT client, designed to accelerate backups of file systems with many objects. MAGS does not interfere with what STORAGE PROTECT does or does not do. It merely starts many STORAGE PROTECT clients in parallel to assure faster backups and restores.

A MAGS server can create instances for many linux and/or windows clients to parallelise their backup jobs.

All other limitations inherited from the STORAGE PROTECT client and server environment still apply. For your server, there are a number of settings you may have to adjust in order to fit a MAGS profile. These are in particular:

  • MAXNUMMP settings for the STORAGE PROTECT node(s) you plan to use,

  • MOUNTLIMIT settings for the deviceclass used (if applicable),

  • MAXSESSIONS from your general STORAGE PROTECT server settings.
